Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has expressed the government’s appreciation of partnership and co-operation with the World Bank, noting the international institution’s significant role in financing several developmental projects in Egypt over the past decades.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with World Bank Vice President for Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj Sunday night, Cabinet spokesman Nader Saad said in a statement yesterday. International Co-operation Minister Rania al-Mashat attended the meeting.
The meeting with Belhaj and the accompanying delegation was held on the sidelines of a conference to launch a new country strategy between Egypt and the World Bank Group for the period 2023-2027.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouli stressed the government’s commitment to widening the scope of enhancing the private sector role in economic activities, referring in this regard to the meetings he calls with representatives of the private sector to exchange views on economic policies and overcome any difficulties they may face, Spokesman Saad said.
Dr Madbouli also referred to the establishment, under the chairmanship of President Sisi, of the Supreme Committee on Investment which aims to achieve a quantum leap in the business climate in Egypt, the Cabinet spokesman said.
The World Bank official, for his part, said the new strategy programme sends a message of support for Egypt in such difficult global economic circumstances.
