The national air carrier, EgyptAir, transported yesterday a shipment of Egyptian antiquities free of charge on board its flight No. MS792 coming from Rome to Cairo International Airport.

Board Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company Yehia Zakaria said that the company is performing its national role in restoring the Egyptian antiquities smuggled from various countries of the world in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

All necessary facilities have been provided in co-operation between the Italian authorities and the Egyptian embassy in Rome. Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Bassem Rady and Hatem Mahmoud, Director of the EgyptAir Office in Rome, attended the event to transport the shipment of antiquities aboard an EgyptAir B737-800 aircraft, while offering all means of storage and protection to ensure that the shipment arrives safely to the homeland.

Over the past few years, EgyptAir has transported several shipments of Egyptian antiquities from New York, Paris and Switzerland to Egypt free of charge, out of keenness to fulfill its role as a national carrier in protecting the Egyptian heritage.
