Children of Egyptian expats have their chance to speak Arabic at a special camp in South Sinai until 17 July.

Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram and Deputy Governor of South Sinai Enas Samir participated in the fifth ‘Speak Arabic’ camp, which is part of a presidential initiative of the same name which was launch in May this year.

Egyptian families living abroad have access to a ‘Speak Arabic application to encourage their children to learn Egyptian colloquial variety of the language while making them aware of their national identity.

Egyptian expat families gave their feedback about the app at the camp, Makram said, adding that this would guide the launch of phase two of the initiative, aimed at the 9-12 age group.

The initiative promotes Arabic language and Egyptian culture among fourth- and fifth-generations expats to forge a connection with their homeland.

Non-Egyptian Arabic speakers can also sign up for ‘Speak Arabic’.

The camp was organised with the help and support of the Wellspring Foundation.
