Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call on Saturday from South Sudanese Acting Foreign Affairs MInister Deng Dau Deng Malek to discuss the current crisis in Sudan.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the two officials reviewed the efforts of both sides to boost and support reaching a ceasefire in Sudan on the basis of the Egyptian-South Sudanese initiative that was agreed on during a phone call between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and South Sudanese President Salva Kiir on April 16.
During the call, Shoukry said that the initiative aims at serving the best interest of the Sudanese people and warned of the harmful impact of the conflict in Sudan on Egypt and South Sudan which are its closest neighbors.
Both sides agreed on intensifying communication and coordination in the coming period.
