PARIS – The draft final communique of the Paris international conference on Libya urged all Libyan parties and the countries involved in the Libyan conflict to accept the results of the upcoming general election that would be held on December 24 as scheduled.
It also called on those countries to refrain from taking any action that could negatively affect the forthcoming elections and hand the power to the elected institutions and respect the Libyan people’s will.
According to the draft obtained by MENA, all Libyan parties, including the nominees for the elections, should abide by their pledges to support the electoral process.
It urged the UN’s Sanctions Committee to hold accountable to any domestic or foreign party that seeks to hinder the elections, under the UN Security Resolution No. 2571.
The French Foreign Ministry had announced that the Paris conference on Libya would focus on means of supporting the electoral process and the exit of all foreign troops and mercenaries from the North African country.
