CAIRO – The Arab League on Thursday urged Arab governments to empower the youth, motivate them to invest in their innovations with a view to creating new generations capable of serving their countries, as well as to remove any obstacles facing them.
This came in a speech delivered by Minister of Plenipotentiary Dr Maha Bakheet, the Director of Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Department at the Arab League, at a celebration marking World Intellectual Property Day.
The celebration was attended by government officials from intellectual property offices in Arab countries, experts from the World Intellectual Property Organisation, in addition to a number of researchers, legal experts and young inventors.
Bakheet lauded the unprecedented progress witnessed in the innovation field in the Arab region, where she said there has been real interest in this regard from governments and decision-makers through the development of relevant legislation.
She also noted that many Arab states have joined international agreements in the field of intellectual property, especially with regard to patents.
