Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, and Director of the Egyptian Military Academy, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher.
The meeting discussed the government’s efforts regarding the ‘Digilians’ initiative, which aims to qualify and train young people in the fields of CIT and software, so that it can be a pillar in digital transformation and the promotion of digital exports as a key element of national economic development, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed Al Shennawy said.
During the meeting, CIT Minister Tallat reviewed the details of the initiative, saying that it aims to offer training for employment and job creation in CIT specialisations needed for the labour market, mainly in artificial intelligence (IT), programming, cybersecurity, design and digital arts.
The initiative will be open for registration for all ages with different academic and practical backgrounds and from all governorates of Egypt, as part of the effort to expand the base of beneficiaries of the initiative, Minister Talaat explained.
The meeting emphasised that the application for joining the initiative will be online, through a platform that will be established for this purpose after the end of the Eid Al-Fitr vacation.
The initiative is based on the idea of full accommodation for beneficiaries in equipped places, Talaat said.
An agreement was concluded with the Military Academy to utilise the buildings of the Military College in Heliopolis for the purpose after the college moves to the New Administrative Capital.
The initiative will include comprehensive training for the beneficiaries, which would cover technical training, personal skills and English language. It will also include practical training in co-operation with major international and local companies operating in Egypt, with paths to obtain a master’s degree from a group of the top universities in Egypt, the minister said.
Minister Talat said that the goal is to accept 5000 students annually to benefit from the initiative, taking into account that the cost of preparing accommodation and study spaces will amount to approximately three billion Egyptian pounds, while the cost of training courses will amount to approximately one billion Egyptian pounds annually.
President Sisi gave directives for bolstering the standards of accuracy, transparency and impartiality in the beneficiaries’ selection process, in order to enhance the community’s confidence in the initiative, especially as it will help qualify the participants to join the jobs required in the labor market, Spokesman Al Shennawy said.
