The cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has issued a new edition of the “National Studies Database” newsletter under the title of “A Bibliography on Intellectual Property and a Summary of Studies’ Recommendations.”
The edition includes 34 statements on intellectual property alongside the recommendations of studies issued by a number of research and academic bodies.
The center expounded that intellectual property plays a pivotal role in modern economy as protecting intellectual property rights contributes to realizing economic development.
Moreover, the recommendations issued by academic and research centers on intellectual property included raising awareness about intellectual property rights via official and non-official media.
The recommendations also called for encouraging legal and technical research to protect intellectual property in addition to backing police agencies in combating violations of intellectual property rights.
The recommendations also urged drawing up an integrated Egyptian security system to protect intellectual property rights from infringement and piracy in addition to establishing a specialized court for intellectual property disputes in the form of an electronic Arab court under the Arab League.
This court should issue swift decisions to address evolving crimes in the digital environment, with the authority to enforce its rulings through relevant bodies in Arab countries.
The recommendations also underlined the importance of unifying Arab laws and measures regarding intellectual property rights.
The recommendations also called for strengthening deterrent penalties for intellectual property rights violations in local legislation in addition to enacting new laws or update existing ones globally to provide legal solutions for dealing with artificial intelligence outputs and keeping pace with technological advancements.
The recommendations also urged supporting innovation and seeking to sustainably increase patent rates through expanding the establishment of technology incubators and research excellence centers at Egyptian universities.
The recommendations also called for supporting self-financing of universities through engaging in partnerships with offices that fund innovative research and projects, both domestically and internationally, to support intellectual property research at Egyptian universities and integrate this into the universities’ strategic research plans.
The recommendations also called for setting legal regulations for data used in artificial intelligence applications, such as protecting privacy and preserving personal data.
