A new international reputation was won by the civil aviation sector, as Egypt succeeded in passing the inspection of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which was conducted on the Civil Aviation Authority and both Cairo and Borg El Arab airports to ensure that security and safety measures implemented in the Egyptian civil aviation sector conform to international standards and rules set by ICAO.
The inspection conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation team resulted in Egypt obtaining a level higher than the average global assessment in countries’ application of air safety and security standards and aviation legislation.
The security inspection and audit comes within the framework of the periodic inspections conducted by the international organisation on various countries of the world, including Egypt.
For his part, Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas expressed his happiness that Egypt had successfully passed the international inspection of ICAO, which confirms that Egypt applies the highest standards of air safety and security in various fields of aviation.
The minister congratulated and thanked all the employees of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, its bodies and subsidiaries for their great efforts, which resulted in the Egyptian civil aviation sector passing the ICAO international inspection with great success and in an honorable manner befitting Egypt’s status, which enhances the confidence of the international aviation community in the procedures applied by the Egyptian state in various aviation activities.
The minister emphasised that strengthening air safety and security measures and applying them accurately comes at the forefront of priorities in light of the challenges facing the civil aviation industry, stressing that the Civil Aviation Authority and Cairo and Borg El Arab airports have achieved an advanced international standard in the field of applying safety and security measures, and this was evident from the inspection results.
For its part, the ICAO international inspection team headed by Karen Zadoyan praised Egypt’s application of air safety and security standards and its conformity with the highest international standards set by ICAO.
The head of the inspection team also praised the keenness of the Minister of Civil Aviation to meet periodically with the members of the Supreme Committee for Aviation Security and Facilities in Egypt to follow up the security measures and measures taken at airports and Egyptian airlines.
Ashraf Noeir, Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, said that the international inspection team made field visits to inspect the Civil Aviation Authority as well as Cairo and Borg El Arab airports to follow up on the implementation of all technical and security measures and safety, security and emergency plans that are implemented at airports and airlines, especially at peak times.
He added that the ICAO delegation carried out security checks on all departments concerned operating in the Civil Aviation Authority and Cairo and Borg El Arab airports.
He pointed out that the international inspection team made a number of proposals that would improve the work environment, stressing that it had already started work on implementing these proposals in a way that would contribute to improving the performance of the Egyptian civil aviation sector.
The ICAO organisation had celebrated on December 7, the International Day of Civil Aviation, which witnessed the signing of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, and Egypt was one of the first countries in the world to sign the agreement in 1944.
Minister Abbas affirmed that Egypt is committed to continuing its positive contribution and fulfilling its responsibilities in all fields of air transport to enhance the security, safety and environment of global aviation, in coordination with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
In a congratulatory message sent by the Minister of Civil Aviation to Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of ICAO, on the occasion of World Civil Aviation Day, the civil aviation minister added that the Ministry is keen to enhance fruitful co-operation and coordination with the international organisation and adopt all initiatives issued by it to implement the highest standards of air safety, praising the role and the great efforts exerted by the organisation in various fields of air transport.
Minister Abbas indicated that Egypt is proud of being one of the first countries in the world to sign the Chicago agreement, and it is one of the founding countries and has been a member of the organisation’s council since its inception.
The minister also expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the important role played by the ICAO regional office in Egypt since its presence in Cairo in 1953 to serve the Middle East region in the field of air transport. He wished the organisation and all its employees more successes in light of the challenges facing the global aviation industry.
