Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny met with officials from China’s Gezhouba Group, a subsidiary of China Energy, to discuss potential collaboration on building a logistics cargo city at Cairo International Airport. The meeting included a presentation from the Chinese company outlining its proposal to design and construct the logistics hub, which aims to position Egypt as a regional and global logistics centre.
The project is intended to strengthen Egypt’s role as a key hub for air cargo, meeting growing demand for air freight services and enhancing Egypt’s connectivity with global trade routes. The plan mirrors similar developments at international airports and aligns with Egypt’s strategy to boost its logistical capabilities.
Dr. El-Hefny praised Egypt’s strong relations with China, emphasising the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. He highlighted that the proposal would be reviewed with Egypt’s aviation team to ensure it meets the goals of improving the country’s air cargo infrastructure and making Egypt a leading gateway for global trade in Africa.
Representatives from Gezhouba expressed their appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to develop the civil aviation sector and reiterated their commitment to supporting infrastructure projects in the country. They emphasised the alignment of the proposed project with Egypt’s sustainable development goals and expressed eagerness to contribute to the modernisation of Egypt’s airport network.
