The discovery of thousands of animal mummies at Saqqara in September 2019 prompted an archaeological team to look for a mummification workshop.
“We found it and details of the find will be announced on May 27,” said Supreme Council of Antiquities Secretary General Mostafa Waziry in an address to a function at British Embassy on Monday marking the centenary of the Tutankhamun tomb discovery.
As for the Grand Egyptian Museum, Waziry said work is in full swing for its opening.
Thousands of antiquities have already been transferred to the new premises and the work is scheduled for completion in November, Waziry added.
Currently there are 21 British archaeological missions working in Egypt: 18 in Egyptology and three in Islamic sciences.
