The Ahl Masr Development Foundation and the League of Arab States have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening regional healthcare capabilities, particularly in the critical area of burns treatment. A newly signed memorandum of cooperation commits the League to providing comprehensive support to the Foundation, facilitating its operations and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to addressing pressing humanitarian needs within the Arab world.
The agreement, signed at the League of Arab States headquarters, marks a significant step towards enhancing regional cooperation in response to the pervasive challenge of burn injuries. The signing ceremony was attended by League of Arab States Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Dr. Heba El Sewedy, Founder and Chairperson of the Ahl Masr Development Foundation and Burns Hospital, alongside senior officials from both organizations.
Secretary-General Aboul Gheit lauded the Ahl Masr Burns Hospital as a “humanitarian edifice,” emphasizing its exemplary role in regional healthcare. He highlighted the hospital’s establishment through philanthropic contributions and its execution by Egyptian expertise, reflecting the potential for impactful change within the Arab community. “This partnership signifies our commitment to supporting sustainable institutions that redefine social responsibility,” he stated, urging broader investment in regional healthcare infrastructure.

Former Prime Minister and Honorary President of the Ahl Masr Development Foundation, Engineer Ibrahim Mahlab, emphasized the hospital’s embodiment of “humanity and dedication,” noting the team’s ability to achieve extraordinary outcomes. He commended the hospital staff for their compassionate approach, recognizing their role as a “family that embraces patients with their hearts.”
Dr. Heba El Sewedy highlighted the agreement as a pivotal advancement in regional healthcare collaboration. She acknowledged the League’s commitment to the Foundation’s mission of providing free, high-quality medical services to burn patients. The partnership will support the hospital’s ongoing expansion, including the development of a 50-bed intensive care unit, a neonatal ICU, and a dedicated research center for burns treatment, alongside 80 intermediate care and inpatient rooms.
Following the signing, a delegation from the League of Arab States, including Secretary-General Aboul Gheit and senior officials, toured the Ahl Masr Burns Hospital. They commended the hospital’s specialized medical services and its critical role in saving lives.
Since its opening in March 2024, the Ahl Masr Burns Hospital has treated over 8,000 burn patients, including 6,500 children. The hospital’s emergency department has attended to over 2,500 patients, and its intensive care units have admitted 244. The hospital has also performed over 4,000 surgical procedures, with a significant focus on pediatric care.
The League of Arab States, a regional organization established in 1945, aims to promote cooperation and coordination among its 22 member states.
