CAIRO – Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting with a number of officials concerned with following up the national plan for combating the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), implementing the Global Strategy for the Prevention and Control of AIDS and achieving the sustainable strategy goals by eliminating this disease by 2030.
During the meeting, the minister tackled files of joint co-operation between the National AIDS Program and the UN office in Egypt and means of expanding support offered to the disease prevention services, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
The minister ordered intensifying health awareness campaigns for citizens about the disease and ways of preventing infection.
The meeting also touched on developing a platform to provide correct and precise information about the HIV and inform citizens about all services offered by the National AIDS Program.
Abdel Ghaffar asserted cooperation with various bodies concerned and civil society organizations and associations to expand the data base for reaching all infected citizens and offer them medical services.
The minister also discussed expanding the psychological support programs offered to patients living with the virus and the early detection methods in a way that would help reduce chances of transmission of the virus and reach zero infections.
