Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamil Wazir announced the start of the pilot operation of the Arab Raml Waghour bridge on the Cairo-Alexandria agricultural road which was established at high quality standards.
The three-lane bridge is 1.5 kilometer long and 12 meter wide for each direction, he said in statements on Wednesday.
Wazir said the project falls within the framework of the ministry’s comprehensive plan for developing and expanding the 220-kilometer-long Cairo-Alexandria agricultural road to be four lanes on each direction, except at the entrance of villages and cities to be six lanes on each direction.
He added that the development plan included establishing 10 bridges, noting that about 92 percent of them was built.
He said these projects are meant to streamline traffic and reduce accidents rate.
