Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit discussed on Monday with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi means to deepen co-operation between the pan-Arab organisation and Japan within the framework of the Japan-Arab economic forum which was founded in 2009, according to AP.
They discussed means to activate cooperation through the Arab-Japanese political dialogue which started in 2013 as the Japanese side looks forward to the convocation of the third session of the Arab-Japanese political dialogue in 2023 in the presence of Arab foreign ministers at the league’s headquarters in Cairo.
A source at the Arab League said Abul Gheit briefed the top Japanese diplomat on the latest developments of the crisis of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, reaffirming the league’s support to the historical and legitimate water rights of Egypt and Sudan.
The Japanese foreign minister expressed his country’s keenness on boosting co-operation with the Arab side in all domains.
The talks also dealt with Arab and Asian issues of mutual concern, topped by the developments in Syria and Libya, with Abul Gheit reaffirming the importance of Japan’s role at international levels.
They discussed the developments of the Palestinian issue, said the source, adding Abul Gheit thanked Japan for its backing to UNRWA as well as its support to the Palestinians.
Motegi’s visit to Egypt is part of a Middle East tour taking him to Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iran and Qatar.
