Two foreign nationals were killed and two others injured after air defenses intercepted a drone attempting to target a facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field on Wednesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing an official source at the Ministry of Energy.
The source said the drone was intercepted on Wednesday morning as it attempted to strike a processing facility at the oil field in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, according to Al Arabiya.
The incident sparked a fire in a vehicle belonging to a contractor working at the field, outside the facility’s perimeter, but did not affect operations, according to the ministry.
The two people killed were Filipino and Nepali nationals, while the injured were Pakistani and Indian nationals, the source said.
The ministry said relevant authorities had responded to the incident and taken the necessary measures.
The source expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The statement did not identify who was responsible for launching the drone.
