CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir reviewed the work progress at a number of ventures of the first phase of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) project.
During a meeting Monday, the minister said the ITS project will help enhance the roads’ operational quality, as well as realize maximum benefit of the State’s new road and axes network.
According to the minister, the new system would ensure all roads’ security and safety, guarantee prompt response to road emergencies, reduce rates of pollution, provide an overall accurate view of vehicles movement and guarantee accuracy in detecting traffic violations that would all help create new investment opportunities.
The project is part of an overarching State development strategy meant to upgrade the road sector across Egypt, in line with the political leadership directives in this regard, Wazir said.
He reviewed the new system’s key mechanism including operational, control, technical support, data and ticket e-payment systems.
Meantime, the minister said all roads used in the ITS will be monitored by a network of cameras for observing the traffic movement around the clock.
He also accentuated the importance of finalizing all ventures related to the ITS project’s first phase as scheduled.
