Egypt’s Supply Minister Ali Moselhi said the state has for the first time laid down a mechanism to ensure the availability of rice at suitable price throughout the year.
During an inspection tour of some supply projects and warehouses in Giza, the minister said last year witnessed lack of commodities during the months of July, August and September and this has led to upping prices.
He said the ministry referred to the cabinet a new rice mechanism which aims at securing one million to 1.5 million tons of rice.
Under the new mechanism, rice supply prices rose in comparison with the previous year from EGP 3,400 per ton to 6,600-6,850 pounds per ton, he said, noting that the rice price per kilo stands at EGP 12-15.
