President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Ankara is important as it comes in a crucial moment requiring consultations between Egypt and Turkey, a former Egyptian diplomat has said.
Former assistant foreign minister Mohamed Hegazy described in statements to MENA on Wednesday Egypt and Turkey as key pillars of security and stability in the Middle East region, stressing the need for coordination to prevent further escalation due to the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza and crimes against the Palestinians.
Cairo and Ankara will discuss efforts to deal with the Middle East crisis in coordination with international actors, especially the US, which supports the Israeli government.
Hegazy emphasized the important role of Egypt, Turkey and Jordan in safeguarding Islamic holy sites in Palestine amid Israeli violations and military operations in the West Bank, which he says are war crimes.
He hailed the growth in Egyptian-Turkish investments and trade relations, expecting upcoming agreements in various sectors during the Sisi’s visit would enhance bilateral ties.
Hegazy asserted that both Egypt and Turkey are keen to increase trade from $10 billion to $15 billion, a goal that can be achieved with the political will and strong investment flow.
The Mideast needs the Egyptian-Turkish partnership to drive reconstruction and create a powerful economic bloc that benefits both nations in particular, and the region, in general.
