Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from President of the European Council Charles Michel during which they discussed a host of regional and international issues of common concern between Egypt and the European Union (EU).
They also discussed the developments in Sudan, as Michel expressed deep concern over the deteriorating political and humanitarian conditions and their impact on civilians and the foreign communities there, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The President of the European Council also emphasised Egypt’s leading role to push ahead the efforts to reach a ceasefire, and calm the situation, Fahmy added.
President Sisi stressed Egypt’s support to the Sudanese people in the serious crisis they are experiencing, and reviewed Cairo’s latest efforts to reach a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, in addition to its contacts with the active players at the regional and international levels, Spokesman Fahmy said.
President Sisi also underlined the importance of intensifying efforts to activate the political path and peaceful dialogue, in a manner that would help restore security and stability, as well as preserving the interests of the Sudanese people, Fahmi noted.
