Head of the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS) Diaa Rashwan denied rumors about the establishment of a buffer zone in the border area with the Gaza Strip to accommodate and house Palestinian refugees displaced from the Strip to reside in Sinai, emphasizing Egypt’s firm rejection of forcibly displacing Palestinians outside Gaza and attempts to settle the Palestinian issue, noting that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was the first to address the issue of displacement to Sinai and considered it as a “red line.”
Interviewed by Al Jazeera TV via phone, Rashwan affirmed that Egypt appreciates the risks regarding Israeli actions and has the means to preserve its national security and the Palestinian cause from liquidation.
He stated that Egypt considers forced displacement as a war crime, and everyone knows that forced displacement in international humanitarian law is a “war crime.”
Regarding satellite images showing construction of a wall along the “Sheikh Zuwaid-Rafah” road 3.5 kilometers west of the border with Gaza, rising 7 meters high, Rashwan confirmed that Egypt’s position on this matter is clear and there is no ambiguity. He emphasized that no complaint or position has been issued in this regard by Hamas, resistance factions, or the Palestinian Authority.
