The National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW) will launch the largest social protection initiative in the history of Egypt.
‘The Shoulder to Shoulder’ initiative, which is to be launched at the Cairo International Stadium, is intended to help the neediest people nationwide cope up with the skyrocketing prices of basic commodities, especially as the holy fasting month of Ramadan approaches.
‘Shoulder in Shoulder’ will supply 4 million food boxes nationwide before the holy month.
Kitchens will also be established at the governorate level to serve hot meals in the largest initiative in terms of the number of volunteers.
One food package will feed a family of five for a month.
The NACDW said in press statements that more details about the event at the Cairo International Stadium will be announced soon.
The NACDW members have participated in the two recent visits by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to the governorates of Sohag and Minya, during which the president praised the efforts of the National Alliance volunteers in civil work.
Around 1,500 NACDW volunteers are working hard to assist limited-income strata overcome tough economic conditions.
The NACDW has launched several initiatives during the past few time, including ‘Cover and Wellness’ and ‘The Goodness Train’.
President Sisi has directed the authorities concerned to work on providing more support for citizens, in light of the ongoing global crises, to reduce the burden on families in need.
He called on NACDW and other civil society organisations to intensify their efforts during 2023.
He underlined that NACDW has announced a package of LE14 billion to the charity work, calling on Tahya Misr fund to contribute.
The president urged more entities to join the alliance to offer more economic and health services.
Since the inauguration of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, in March 2022, it has had a major role in enriching civil work, and provided an opportunity for partnership between civil society institutions to support the neediest groups.
The NACDW is the first alliance of its kind in Egypt, which includes the General Federation of Associations, all regional and specific federations, and the most prominent leading civil society institutions and associations with well-known efforts and successful experiences in helping the poor inside the country.
