Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohammed Ayman Ashour has reviewed a report on the efforts by Tanta University to enhance the Presidential Initiative, Decent Life.
This, a statement by the university said, comes in implementation of the Supreme Council of Universities’ (SCU) directives for requesting universities to continue launching medical, veterinary and agricultural convoys, holding cultural symposiums, and organising events and different activities, as well as contributing positively to the health, environmental, veterinary and social fields in cooperation with Decent Life Initiative.
The report, submitted by Tanta University President Prof Mahmoud Zaki, included the efforts exerted by the university starting from the end of 2020 to the end of May, 2023 in coordination and participation with the Supreme Medical and Aid Committee of the Cabinet, Gharbia governorate, Decent Life Foundation, and the General Authority for Literacy and Adult Education in the medical, veterinary, awareness-raising, sports, and agricultural fields, in addition to economic empowerment, literacy, and food assistance.
Through these years, the university launched a number of 818 comprehensive developmental convoys that provided medical services and granted medicaments to 217,580 citizens for free, the report read.
It noted that the agricultural convoys served 76,183 citizens, while the awareness convoys were sent to 22,855 citizens. On this scope, 6,824 talented were spotted. Moreover, 6,118 citizens were benefited from the economic empowerment convoys, 9,333 families were given food assistance.
Literacy exams were conducted for 4,308 illiterate persons, and veterinary care services were also provided to 392,427 heads of livestock and animals in cooperation with Veterinary Medicine Directorate in Gharbia governorate, the report noted.
The comprehensive convoys were sent to different districts inside Gharbia Governorate, it said, adding that a raft of convoys were sent to a number of governorates, including, Qena, Luxor, the New Valley, the Red Sea, and Matrouh, serving 26,007 citizens.
The report also clarified the intellectual framework that governs the participation of Tanta University in supporting the presidential initiative, Decent Life, based on the three main dimensions of Egypt’s Vision 2030 which are the economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
The report also tackled the objective of the presidential initiative to alleviate the burdens of citizens in the neediest areas, achieve the comprehensive development for the Egyptian countryside, and bridge developmental gaps.
