Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli underlined the state’s interest in developing the Civil Aviation sector which is one of the pillars of the tourism and trade sectors.
He noted that the project of developing the Sphinx International Airport is of great importance, especially as it is close to the Giza Pyramids Plateau.
He said this area is witnessing great development in preparation for opening the Grand Egyptian Museum.
He made the remarks during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar reviewed a report on the progress realised so far in upgrading Sphinx International Airport in Giza.
He said about 90 per cent of the development process was accomplished and is scheduled to operate in mid July.
He added that Sphinx airport is one of the most important airports that serves the governorates of Giza, Fayyoum, Monofiya, Beni Suef and Menya, noting that this helps to alleviate pressure on Cairo International Airport.
He added that Sphinx airport after development will operate both local and international flights, activate the one-day tourism and promote exports movement.
