Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Monday reviewed with Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayed el Quseir the crops grown during the agricultural season 2022-2023, as well as the agricultural policies for the season 2023-2024.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has adopted a well-studied plan to determine types of crop set to be cultivated in both the winter and summer seasons, areas of arable land dedicated to each crop, alongside their distribution among geographic areas depending on state’s actual need of different crops, said minister el Quseir.
During the agricultural season 2022-2023, the area of cultivated land reached 9.8 million feddans, almost 6.1 million feddans of already existing lands and 3.7 million feddans of newly-cultivated lands, the minister said.
He added that the agricultural intensification rate stood at 180 per cent.
The minister reviewed the distribution of the crops throughout the agricultural season 2022-2023, saying that the winter crops are topped by wheat, alfalfa, sugar beets, and winter vegetables, while maize, sorghum, rice and cotton topped the summer ones.
He added that the perennials for the year 2022-2023 included citrus, mango, palm, olive, grapes, pomegranates, bananas alongside other types of fruits.
Meanwhile, el Quseir highlighted the agricultural policies for the upcoming season 2023-2024, noting that area of arable lands is expected to reach 10 million feddans.
