NEW YORK – Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala Elsaid on Tuesday asserted the significance of securing executive tools and mechanisms for developing countries, along with boosting cooperation and partnerships, with a view to achieving sustainable development and eliminating poverty.
Minister Elsaid was delivering Egypt’s speech at the ministerial segment of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which takes place in New York on July 10-19.
The forum is being held under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”.
“The HLPF 2023 as well the summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is set for September, represent a unique opportunity to send a powerful political message and reaffirm adherence to attaining sustainable development, alongside uprooting poverty and handling challenges on path towards putting into effect the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” Elsaid said.
Despite the multiple and enormous challenges facing the world, Egypt has maintained commitment to achieving sustainable development at all levels, in accordance with its Vision 2030, the minister added.
Introduced in 2012, the HLPF is the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. It is the apex of the architecture for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda established by the 2030 Agenda and General Assembly resolution 70/299.
