Egypt’s Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Saaed said the Egyptian government attached great importance to the localization of sustainable development goals nationwide.
Addressing a session, titled “Multilateralism: Collective Actions to Accelerate Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals”, which was held as part of the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting, currently in session in India from June 11 to 13, the minister said that since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by all UN Member States in 2015, needs and challenges have emerged that require non-stop global efforts to accelerate progress in the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs.
At the national level, countries have put in place the necessary frameworks and created a stimulating environment to achieve the SDGs, she added.
Despite the huge strides in achieving sustainable development at various levels, the world is still facing many social, health and environmental crises and challenges, as well as peace and security; this impedes the developmental gains that have been achieved in developing countries that have been greatly affected by these challenges, the minister further noted.
She stressed the importance of international cooperation to find a long-term solutions, taking into account the paramount need of the new era and the new approach taken by international partnerships for sustainable development.
She went on to say that the 2023 SDG Summit will be convened in September 2023, during the UN General Assembly high-level week, to mark the mid-point of implementing the 17 SGDs of the 2030 Agenda agreed in 2015.
She underlined the need for a full-scale review of the status of the SDGs and responding to the impacts of the interlocking crises facing the world, along with providing high-level guidance on the transformative actions needed to reach the target year of 2030 to achieve the SDGs.
