More companies are applying to undertake bunkering operations in the ports affiliated with the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) with fossil fuels or green fuels, an official announced on Sunday.
SCZone chairman Walid Gamal El-Din said: “We are currently working on supplying ships with traditional fuel, and last week we conducted the first fueling operation with green methanol.
“Egypt is witnessing a recovery in maritime services after years of absence, and this will increase opportunities for factories to provide the green methanol for ships passing through our ports,” Gamal El-Din said.
“Ship supplying is only the beginning of consolidating the concept of marine services, which is no less important than the supply activity, which maximises the added value of the ports belonging to the Suez Canal Economic Zone,” Gamal El-Din added.
Two weeks ago, the zone celebrated several achievements and projects related to the port of East Port Said, foremost of which was the success of the first vessel in the world bringing green fuel to a port in the eastern Mediterranean.
This, he said, will enhance the importance of the port in global trade movement qualifying the port for the first green supply operation on August 18.
West Port Said Port has also supplied ships with 6,660 tons of fuel in recent weeks.
The SCZone signed 23 memorandum of understanding for the production of green fuel, of which nine were signed during COP 27 with various international and international companies.
The first projects were launched from Sokhna with the President of the Republic announcing the opening of the first green hydrogen production plant in the economic zone during the climate summit held last November.
