Following Eid al-Fitr prayers, millions of Egyptians across the nation took to public squares, mosques, and Islamic centers in a powerful display of solidarity with the Palestinian people. The State Information Service (SIS) reported that the mass demonstrations, held in hundreds of locations across all governorates, underscored Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
According to the SIS, the sheer scale of the rallies was evident, with participants filling all 6,240 designated prayer squares and overflowing into surrounding streets. Demonstrators waved Palestinian and Egyptian flags and held banners in both Arabic and English, amplifying their unified message.
The gatherings, which extended for hours after the Eid prayers, featured impassioned speeches and resonant slogans. The SIS highlighted that these demonstrations were not merely expressions of sentiment, but rather a conveyance of distinct and unequivocal political messages.
The core messages articulated by the demonstrators were:
- Unwavering support for Egyptian leadership: Demonstrators affirmed their solidarity with the Egyptian political leadership’s firm rejection of the ongoing aggression in Gaza and their steadfast support for Palestinian rights.
- Rejection of forced displacement: Participants categorically rejected any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland.
- Condemnation of genocide: The rallies denounced the “genocide” occurring in the Gaza Strip, demanding immediate international intervention to halt the violence.
- Support for Palestinian statehood: Demonstrators reiterated the demand for a just resolution to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.
- Demand for immediate ceasefire: The rallies called for an immediate, comprehensive, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, aiming to end the “brutal war of extermination” faced by its inhabitants.
The SIS emphasized that these mass demonstrations and their clear, direct messages served as a powerful reaffirmation of Egypt’s enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause, a stance maintained for nearly eight decades. The service further asserted that the public’s sentiments were in complete alignment with the decisive positions taken by the Egyptian political leadership since the onset of the Gaza conflict.
“Egypt, as a unified nation, remains resolute and steadfast, committed to supporting the Palestinian people and ensuring that the aggression against them ceases and that their full, legitimate rights are restored,” the SIS concluded.
