The South Korean travel ban on Marsa Matrouh is to be lifted.

This statement by South Korea’s Ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin-wook came during his meeting with Marsa Matruh Governor Khaled Shoaib.

The envoy said in a press release that his embassy would be reviewing travel advice for Siwa with a view to promoting Korean tourism to the area.

The envoy also congratulated the governor on the start of the construction of the el-Daaba Nuclear power plant.

Many South Korean engineers from Korean Hydro and Nuclear Power are currently working on the construction site, he said.

For his part, Governor Shoaib expressed gratitude for South Korea’s lifting the travel ban, adding that the governorate would make every effort to ensure the safety of Korean visitors in the hope that this will soon lead to co-operation and exchanges with Korea’s administrative regions.

Hong also met Siwa Mayor Mohamed Bakr on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Hong said Siwa is one of the best tourist attractions in Egypt.

Mayor Bakr said all Korean visitors’ safety will be guaranteed in Siwa.
