CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania al Mashat hailed the prominent role of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the European Union (EU), in supporting the national strategy on population through cooperation with the Ministry of Health, bodies concerned as well as the civil society institutions.
The minister was delivering a speech via the a video-conference during the launch of the UNFPA new Country Program for Egypt (2023-2027), with the participation of Frederika Meijer, the UNFPA Representative in Egypt, and a number of ambassadors, heads of UN agencies and ministry officials.
The UNFPA Country Program for Egypt (2023-2027) is an umbrella for cooperation with the government in gender equality, youth empowerment and investing in human capital, Mashat said.
Earlier in the day, the UNFPA launched the 11th Country Program for Egypt (2023-2027), reaffirming its commitment to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Egypt’s Vision 2030, according to the website of the UN agency.
The program encourages multi-sectoral coordination to address gender-based violence against women and girls and harmful practices, reproductive health and family planning and maternal health.
