The Egyptian Food Bank concluded its extensive Ramadan iftar series with a significant community event held in North Sinai, demonstrating its sustained commitment to food security and social solidarity within the region. In collaboration with the Al-Fayrouz Association for Social, Economic, and Environmental Services, the bank orchestrated a large-scale iftar for local residents, marking the culmination of a month-long initiative aimed at alleviating financial burdens during the holy month.
The event witnessed the presence of key figures including Mr. Ahmed Labib, Head of Field Operations at the Egyptian Food Bank; Mr. Yasser Abdel-Alim, Senior Manager of the Protection Platform; Mr. Abdel Rahman Mahmoud, Relief Convoys Officer; Dr. Riyad Ismail, Chairman of Al-Fayrouz Association; Dr. Marwan Mostafa Hassan, Board Member; and Dr. Amani Gharib, Executive Director of the association. Their attendance underscored the collaborative effort between the bank and local partners in delivering essential support.

Prior to the iftar, Major General Dr. Khaled Maghawar, Governor of North Sinai, received a delegation from the Egyptian Food Bank at the governorate headquarters. Discussions centered on the bank’s ongoing developmental activities and programs in North Sinai, emphasizing strategies to bolster support for the region’s most vulnerable populations.
A hallmark of the event was the active participation of community volunteers, who assisted in meal preparation and table arrangements. This collaborative spirit highlighted the collective commitment to ensuring high-quality and safe food service for beneficiaries, reflecting the core values of social solidarity.
The North Sinai iftar formed part of a broader, nationwide Ramadan initiative by the Egyptian Food Bank, which included events spanning from Cairo to Aswan. This strategic approach, leveraging a network of 4,000 partner associations registered with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, facilitated comprehensive coverage of border regions such as North and South Sinai, Upper Egypt, Marsa Matrouh, and the New Valley. The bank’s commitment to capacity building was evident in its training programs for partner associations, ensuring standardized and efficient food distribution.
Throughout Ramadan, the Egyptian Food Bank, in partnership with local entities, organized numerous iftar and suhoor banquets, aiming to support approximately 700,000 families, benefiting an estimated 4 million individuals. This initiative aimed to mitigate the financial strain experienced by vulnerable communities during the holy month.
The bank’s Ramadan activities encompassed a multifaceted approach, including the “Share in an Iftar Banquet,” “Iftar Meal for a Fasting Person,” and public iftar tables. Additionally, the distribution of “Ramadan Joy” food boxes, as part of the monthly feeding program, and the deployment of the “Takiat Al-Mahrousa” mobile kitchens, delivering hot meals across all governorates, ensured widespread access to essential food resources.
By strategically partnering with local associations and implementing comprehensive programs, the Egyptian Food Bank reinforced its dedication to addressing food insecurity and promoting social cohesion across Egypt, particularly in regions facing unique challenges such as North Sinai.
