Egyptian Local Development Minister Hisham Amna said the ministry implemented projects at LE225 billion to support sustainable development and infrastructure.
More than 38 million people benefited from these projects, which created 7.5 million jobs, the minister said in a statement on Wednesday.
The ministry’s climate change strategy involves governance and localising sustainable development, the minister added. Amna said his ministry hopes to adopt institutional and strategic mechanisms for confronting climate change, which will entail an investment of LE34 billion to support infrastructure for managing municipal waste and improving the environment and air quality.
The ministry has also allocated LE12 billion for landfills and waste recycling, he said.
The Local Development Fund and Mashroak programme earmarked LE173.5 million to promote heritage crafts, he said, adding that 23 million people received assistance to this end.
The Mashroak programme financed 172,000 projects for LE18.5 billion, creating 1 million jobs, he said.
