President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Sunday in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The meeting came on the sidelines of the first visit to Iraq by an Egyptian president over more than three decades, for tripartite talks with Iraq and Jordan aiming to further strengthen economic and security co-operation.
During the meeting, President Sisi stressed that Egypt is keen to continuously consult with Jordan on various issues of common interest, in light of the bilateral solid ties.
The president reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Jordan and its leadership. He also underscored that Jordan’s security is integral to Egypt’s national security, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said in a roundup of the meeting.
In addition, the president voiced Egypt’s full support for the development process in Jordan with the aim of preserving the security and stability of the Kingdom.
For his part, King Abdullah II reiterated his country’s appreciation to the special ties with Egypt at all levels, and stressed keenness on boosting coordination and intensive consultation with Egypt.
The meeting reviewed the overall bilateral relations, notably energy, combating terrorism and extremist ideology, as well as economic and trade relations.
In addition, the two leaders discussed the outcome of the Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee, held in March.
President Sisi and King Abdullah II also exchanged views on a range of regional issues of common concern.
An agreement was reached on the importance of sustaining mutual coordination and concerted joint efforts, with the aim of bringing about comprehensive political settlement of various conflicts in the region, Ambassador Radi said.
The two leaders discussed the latest developments of the peace process in the Middle East and the existing coordination between the two countries in this context.
