Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hany Sewilam on Monday said that the Egyptian Public Authority for Drainage Projects (EPADP) carries out clearing operations for as many as 4,444 main agricultural drains with lengths reaching to 22,000 kilometers annually.
The minister highlighted the importance of the cleaning process in the terms of ensuring the ability of the drains to receive and push the agriculture wastewater without any obstacles that may hinder the wastewater flow and cause accumulation of water inside the drains.
He pointed out to the underway expansions of the drains with a digging capacity reaching to 10 million cubic-meters annually, in tandem with operating 157 stations that are affiliates of the EPADP and meant to transfer water from the agricultural drainage system.
The minister received a report from Chairman of the Egyptian Public Authority for Drainage Projects Mohamed Abel Samea on progress achieved in the ongoing cleaning operations of the agricultural drainage system nationwide.
