Egyptian Health Minister Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Monday with Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Alessandro Fracassetti to discuss means of boosting health co-operation.
The minister praised UNDP keenness to extend bridges of co-operation with the health sector in Egypt, his spokesman, Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said.
The minister stressed the importance of enhancing co-operation mechanisms to support public health, the spokesman added.
The meeting also tackled mechanisms of action to counter the AIDS and tuberculosis diseases, spokesman Abdel Ghaffar said.
Both sides agreed on the need to coordinate efforts to provide healthcare for Egyptian nationals and Sudanese citizens coming to Egypt as part of efforts to fight AIDS and tuberculosis, the spokesman noted.
He added that the minister and the UNDP representative also talked about upgrading medical equipment to guarantee the sustainability of health programmes.
They also discussed expanding joint health projects, the spokesman further said.
The minister reiterated commitment to achieving the sustainable development goals, Abdel Ghaffar said.
For his part, Fracassetti said he is happy with continued co-operation with the health sector in Egypt.
He lauded Egypt’s efforts to provide strong healthcare systems capable of facing epidemics, and said he is looking forward to maintaining co-operation with the Egyptian government in this regard.
