Minister of State of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram and President of the Greek Community of Cairo Christos Cavalis on Tuesday discussed a visit by Greek and Cypriot youth in July.

The visit was agreed upon during Makram’s meeting with her Greek and Cypriot counterparts in Nicosia recently.

The journey comes as part of the celebrations of the 3rd anniversary of the initiative ‘Nostos’ (Reviving Roots), which is dedicated to Egyptian Greeks who left Egypt, aims to bridge the gap between the third generations of the Egyptian Greek immigrants and their Egyptian Greek identity through engaging them with their memories of Egypt.

Makram said that it was agreed during the tripartite meeting with her counterparts from Greece and Cyprus to organise a journey to Egypt for five young people aged 25-30 from the youth of the Greek and Cypriot communities in the three countries, in July.

The move aims at getting acquainted with the common history and culture of the three countries.

A memorandum will be prepared on the journey and submitted to presidents of the three nations, on the details of the activity and the proposals for promoting ‘Nostos’, which was launched in Egypt in April 2018.

The itinerary includes Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia, the Suez Canal and the Egyptian parliament, Makram said.

For his part, President of the Greek Community of Cairo, Christos Cavalis, voiced pleasure for the co-operation with the Ministry State of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs in the organisation of the journey as part of the ‘Nostos’ initiative.
