The Egyptian Cabinet Media Center has dismissed as groundless reports about the government’s intention to extend the grace period for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to legalize their status in the country.

In a statement Monday, the media center said it contacted with the Social Solidarity Ministry, which totally denied such reports, asserting that they are baseless and bare of truth.

The deadline for NGOs, civil society groups across Egypt to settle their status will be tomorrow, said the statement.

The ministry called on NGOs that have not been yet legalized their status to take the step, saying that this last grace period to reconcile the statuses, as no further extension will be introduced.

The center, meanwhile, urged all media outlets to seek accuracy and objectivity before publishing news, advising them to contact bodies concerned so as to avoid sparking confusion among the public.

The center also called for reporting any rumor or misinformation on WhatsApp numbers (01155508688 -01155508851) or email ([email protected]).
