Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum, Tarek el-Mulla, gave on Sunday the go-ahead for the operation of the connection between Raven Gas Pipeline, on one hand, and the butane extraction plant in Amreya, Alexandria, on the other.
The connection project was implemented by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company, known by its acronym, GASCO.
The minister said the project comes within the framework of the strategy of the petroleum sector to maximize benefits from the production of natural gas and its derivatives of high economic value.
He revealed that a project is being implemented on several stages to link and boost the production of Raven field in the Mediterranean with GASCO’s factories and facilities in Alexandria.
These factories and facilities, he said, produce new natural gas derivatives for a number of fields, including the ethane/ propane mixture, which represents the raw material for petrochemical plants in the petroleum sector.
He added that the same factories produce propane for export to global markets, in addition to butane and condensates that meet the needs of the local market.
Soon after approving the start of the operation of the connection, Minister el-Mulla listened to an explanation about the project from GASCO Head, Eng. Yasser Salah Eddin.
The new connection, Salah Eddin said, would supply the Amreya gas plant with up to 100 million cubic feet of gas every day from the Raven field.
He added that the butane extraction plant in Amreya would be operated with maximum design capacity.
The just-opened connection is the second phase of a larger project for linking Raven oilfield with GASCO’s factories.
