CAIRO – Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry appointed Ambassador Ahmed Abo Zeid as the official spokesman for the Foreign Ministry and the Director of the public Diplomacy Department at the ministry.
Abo Zeid succeeds Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, who was appointed as Egypt’s ambassador to Canada.
Hafez will head to Ottawa in the coming few days to assume his new post. Hafez has served as the Foreign Ministry spokesman for four years.
The newly-appointed spokesman has recently returned from Canada after the end of his tour of duty as Egypt’s ambassador in Ottawa.
Abo Zeid was worked as advisor at the Egyptian embassy in Washington, the permanent mission of Egypt to the United Nations in New York and the Consulate-General of Egypt in San Francisco.
He also served for more than 10 years at the Foreign Minister’s office.
