CAIRO – Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet urged his African counterparts to reach a unified African vision on the issues of finance and climate change via holding a number of joint meetings in the coming period within the framework of preparations for Egypt’s hosting of COP27.
During his meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General and the 9th serving Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)Vera Songwe, Maeet asserted his keenness on boosting cooperation between both sides to help in rendering COP27 successful.
A number of initiatives were discussed to achieve the aspirations of the African countries in the field of providing finance resources for climate change, Maeet said.
Maeet reviewed the negative impact of coronavirus and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the African economies including the hike in the prices of oil and food supplies topped by wheat.
He asserted the importance of reaching mechanisms to protect the African countries and economies from such global challenges.
Meanwhile, Songwe invited Maeet to attend the meetings of African finance ministers in Dakar in May.
They also tackled preparations for the spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).
