Youseph, an animated primary school student, goes with his father to visit their neighbour Shrief at the hospital, who made an accident on his way to renew his license.
On their way to the hospital, Youseph sees the banners of Digital Egypt on the road and asks his father about them.
This is a scene from a short animated movie produced by a student group at 6th of October University.
The movie, which is called “Kemet X Minute”, simplifies the government-sponsored Digital Egypt initiative to children with a fun animated cartoon character named Youseph.
When Youseph’s father did not know the answer, Youseph decided with his friends to ask their school teacher about it.
The teacher has clarified the country’s initiative to the children simply as a digital electronic platform designated by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
It eases access to a number of notarisation e-services, including birth certificate, powers of attorney, car licensing and other official documents that users can finish it at home.
Not only these services that save time, but there is also another educational services like the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, the world’s largest digital library, which grants users unlimited resources. In addition, Digital Egypt introduces many services in healthcare.
Youseph finally recognises the importance of Digital Egypt. He told his father about its great advantages that can benefit him and their neighbour Shrief as now there is no need for him to renew his license in person.
The 6th of October University students co-operated together to spread the awareness of the Digital Egypt initiative among children in line with Egypt Vision 2030 to digitalise everything with the aim of saving time and effort and reducing overcrowding in post offices.
“Our project targets children aged 8-12 years old as this age always has passion to learn more about all that is digital and new. Furthermore, they can transfer this knowledge to their parents,” Azhar Fekry, student at Faculty of Media and Mass Communication, 6th of October University, told the Egyptian Mail.
“We asked a group of children about Digital Egypt but they only know that it is a digital service, but they don’t know what these services are and how they can use it,” Mohammed Alaa, another student, said.
“We presented our short movie to children focus group and a mother told us that her children repeated the animated video more than five times to discover every time new information and it was enjoyable and she also learned a lot,” Alaa said.
“We intended to make the father in the story unaware of Digital Egypt as many of the elderly in Egypt aren’t familiar with technology,” he added.
The students co-operated to write the script and the voice over.
The students called the project ‘Kemet X Minute’ to merge between the past and the future in the present time.
As Kemet refers to Ancient Egypt and Minute refers to the speed in digital time, any Egyptian citizen can now finishes what was done in many days in just one minute at home.
The 6th of October University students are willing to deliver their project to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Digital Egypt Platform to be presented for children.
“We need support from the state to shed light on our project. We suggest that this animated video could be showed as TV advertisement to raise the children awareness of Digital Egypt,” Alaa said.
