Egyptian Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad headed on Thursday the 1st session of the interactive ministerial discussions of the Meetings of the conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions held in Stockholm.
The session was held under the theme of “International agreements for healthy planet: good management of chemical substances and waste”.
The session focused on available opportunities to handle the three environmental crises including pollution, climate change and maintaining biological diversity.
During the session, Fouad urged facing pollution and reviewed means to handle the three environmental crises, warning that organic and non-organic waste are dangerous if not handled in a suitable way.
Chemical substances and wastes contribute to increasing global warming gas emissions, she said, adding that chemical substances emit warm gases in addition to the role of climate changes such as the increase of temperature, rains, ice melting, high sea levels that increase the emission of dangerous chemical substances in the environment.
Fouad urged rallying efforts at all the different levels to face financial challenges and accelerate the implementation of the three agreements.
