Kazakhstan’s participation in the international conference of the Supreme Islamic Affairs Council due in Cairo in mid-March was the focus of a Sunday meeting between Minister of Islamic Endowments Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa and the country’s  Ambassador Khairat Lama Sharif

Themed “Dialogue between Religions and Cultures”, the conference will seek to build bridges of dialogue and understanding among peoples and cultures around the world.

Minister Gomaa said his ministry works to open channels of constructive dialogue with all.

This comes, he added, within the framework of efforts by the ministry to spread awareness on the tolerant nature and moderation of Islam.

The international conference of the Supreme Islamic Affairs Council would seek to promote dialogue in the face of violence and conflict, the minister said.

Humans are badly in need of dialogue, the minister said during his meeting with Lama Sharif .

This dialogue has to preserve everybody’s security and open the door for the achievement of peace among peoples, he stressed.

It has also to respect the cultural and religious specificity of everybody as well as their traditions and well-established norms, Minister Gomaa said of the required dialogue among peoples and cultures.

Discussions between Minister Gomaa and Ambassador Lama Sharif also focused on preparations by the Egyptian and Kazakh governments for a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of founding the Egyptian University for Islamic Culture in Kazakhstan.
