CAIRO – Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker witnessed the signing of a contract between the Alexandria Electricity Distribution Company and Siemens for establishing a power distribution center western Alexandria and a control center, along with installing 300 thousand smart electricity meters.

The move comes as part of a project of improving energy efficiency at distribution companies, financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The project aims at constructing four control centers on three phases, in addition to installing one million smart electricity meters in Alexandria, North of Cairo, and north Delta.

To be implemented on 30 months, the project comes at a cost 39 million euros, in addition to EGP 174.2 million.

It serves the country’s interest in enhancing the provided services to the people, reducing power waste and uncovering manipulation, Shaker said.
