Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi flew in to the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi on Sunday, leading a high-ranking delegation to World Government Summit (WGS) 2023 which kicks off in Dubai on Monday.
UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, welcomed the President Sisi upon arrival in Abu Dhabi and the two leaders held a meeting at Qasr Al Shatie.
During their meeting, President Sisi offered condolences to the UAE President over the death of Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi, mother of Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, wife of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The meeting, spokesman Fahmy said, affirmed the specialty of the Egypt-UAE close ties as reflected in the continuous coordination between the two countries which helps support stability of the Arab region and the Middle East. Means of further boosting bilateral ties in all fields were also considered during the meeting, Spokesman Fahmy added.
The Egyptian leader is the guest of honor for this year’s WGS which convenes under the theme of “Shaping Future Governments”, Spokesman Fahmy said.
During the WGS’s events and discussion panels, President Sisi will expound the Egyptian government’s strategies and priorities at the economic and developmental levels, amid successive crises the world has been going through, Spokesman Fahmy said.
Egypt’s participation in this WGS edition is the largest, which reflects the distinguished relations with the UAE, he noted.
Sisi’s itinerary includes bilateral meetings with key figures taking part in the summit, including senior officials of regional and international economic and financial institutions.
Formed by a team of experts in 2013, the WGS event is held in Dubai annually to act as a platform for government officials and opinion leaders. WGS also serves as a platform for dialogue with business leaders and the private sector on government policies, and for discussing technology innovation and a host of other topics.
Realisation of the UN-endorsed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing women inclusion and enablement in government have particularly featured prominently in previous WGS editions.
One of the WGS events, the Experience Exchange Forum, aims to encourage organisations globally towards the continuation of Quality and Transformational Excellence internationally, according to the summit’s website. The process, it adds, is pursued by sharing international views of excellence through knowledge transfer around the world.
