Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at the Presidential Palace in Cairo on Saturday King Abdullah II of Jordan.
An official reception was held for the Jordanian monarch, during which the national anthems of both Egypt and Jordan were played.
After welcoming the Jordanian guest, President Sisi praised strong and brotherly relations with Jordan, Presidency Spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Radi, said.
He added that the president also hailed the advanced level these relations reached on all fronts.
President Sisi expressed hopes that these relations can be strengthened even more in the future, the presidency spokesman said.
He added that the president hoped that this could be done in a way that contributes to achieving the interests of Egypt and Jordan and their peoples at the bilateral level and at the level of the mechanism for trilateral co-operation with Iraq.
President Sisi also appreciated the efforts made by the Jordanian government to cater to the needs of Egyptians living and working in Jordan, Ambassador Radi said.
King Abdullah expressed, meanwhile, deep appreciation for Egypt. He referred to longstanding relations with it.
“These relations unite our two countries,” Ambassador Radi quoted King Abdullah as saying during the meeting.
The king also expressed appreciation of the advanced level co-operation within the trilateral mechanism had reached.
“Jordan is keen to benefit from Egypt’s development efforts in all fields, through the exchange of experiences and joint investment,” King Abdullah said.
Discussions between the president and King Abdullah covered latest regional developments, especially on the Palestinian front, Ambassador Radi said.
He added that President Sisi and King Abdullah agreed on the need for strengthening their two countries’ efforts to provide full support for Palestinians and revive the peace process on the road to reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
This solution, the two leaders said, has to guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, in accordance with international legitimacy.
President Sisi and King Abdullah also discussed issues of mutual interest, Ambassador Radi said.
He added that the two leaders underscored the importance of addressing existing crises in some regional states, within the framework of respect for their sovereignty and unity and with the aim of ending the suffering of their peoples.
