CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmud Esmat discussed with Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis and his accompanying delegation the latest developments of carrying out an electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Greece.
The Greek minister asserted the electricity interconnection with Egypt is an important and strategic project for his country and Europe.
In a statement on Monday, the Electricity Ministry said that the meeting discussed ways of supporting and boosting partnership and co-operation in the fields of electricity, renewable energy, green hydrogen, technological innovation along with transferring the expertise and maximising revenues of the project in the domains of industry and sustainable development.
Both sides tackled recent updates of the electricity linkage project between the power grids in Egypt and Greece and the importance of the project as part of the European-African interconnection project.
The project aims at boosting energy security and the exchange of clean electricity between the two continents.
Esmat commended the fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
The Greek minister said his country is appreciating Egypt’s efforts in promoting the renewable energy sector.
