CAIRO – The “Decent Life” presidential initiative is set to cost some EGP 1 trillion, given the repercussions of the current global economic crisis, Local Development Minister Mahmod Shaarawy said Friday.
The minister made his remarks at a session about the initiative on the sidelines of his participation at the 9th edition of Africities Summit, held from May 17 to 21 in Kenya’s Kisumu City, according to the ministry’s statement.
The initiative aims to develop some 4,584 villages in 22 governorates to improve the living standards of about 60 million citizens, constituting 55 per cent of Egypt’s population.
The minister highlighted the great efforts exerted by the State to carry out development initiatives nationwide to provide better life for all citizens, including the Decent Life initiative that has contributed to developing and upgrading the countryside and Upper Egypt and creating more than 500,000 job opportunities so far.
The theme for the 9th edition of summit is “The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the implementation of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063”.
