Minister of Culture, Ahmed Fouad Hano, on Wednesday reopened the Museum of Modern Art, located in the Egyptian Opera House Square, following extensive renovations and an updated museum display concept.
The reopening coincided with the inauguration of the special art exhibition “Bikar’s Cache,” celebrating the 112th birth anniversary of the late Egyptian artist Hussein Bikar.
“Bikar’s Cache” showcases a diverse collection of Bikar’s artworks, highlighting his artistic journey and various creative phases. The exhibition includes notable paintings featured in the documentary film “The Eighth Wonder,” which chronicles his contributions to the preservation and relocation of the Abu Simbel temples.
Minister Hano emphasized the significance of the museum’s reopening and the exhibition in honoring Egypt’s artistic heritage. “We are celebrating not just the works of an artist but a visionary who bridged the past and the future,” stated Minister Hano.
“Bikar was more than just a painter; he was a poet, a philosopher of lines, and an architect of beauty. His art vividly captured the essence of life, especially in Nubia, which he deeply cherished.”
Through his masterful use of colour and form, Bikar’s paintings captured the harmony between humanity and its monumental achievements, bringing this significant moment in history to life.
The museum provides a platform for future generations to engage with the works of artistic pioneers, who continue to inspire and connect the past with the aspirations of the future. This celebration of Bikar’s legacy reaffirms the enduring power of art to illuminate human history and the beauty of life.
